Crabtree VFD Chief Bill Watkins and Youngstown VFD Chief Barry Banker visited the Greater Latrobe Senior and Junior High School to present the Unity Township Fire Bureau/Latrobe program on Firefighting and the Junior firefighter program. We thank the GLSD Administration and the students who attended. The program is designed to attract potential firefighters from the GLSD to area fire departments.
Baggaley Elementary School Kindergarten students visited the Youngstown VFD fire station for our annual fire prevention program. Students were able to learn about stop-drop-and-roll, crawl low in smoke, what to do in case of a fire, smoke detectors, and see some of the many things done by firefighters. Students also got to view fire apparatus and equipment and take part in interactive activities. Thanks to the Whitney-Hostetter and Pleasant Unity VFD's and the Greater Latrobe School District...
As part of the YVFD’s Community Outreach for Fire Prevention members of the YVFD took our Rescue-Engine to visit the 55 members of Cub Scout Pack 311. Firefighters showed and explained the equipment on our apparatus and talked about fire prevention. Thanks for the opportunity to show you the equipment we use to do our volunteer job!
The Youngstown Volunteer Fire Department has placed “Stop the Bleed” bags into service on our apparatus. Each kit contains enough equipment to care for up to 4 patients who may be injured in a mass casualty incident, shooting, stabbing, trauma, or other incidents where bleeding needs controlled to save a life. The Unity Township Fire Bureau provided the training and each department with 1 bag. The YVFD purchased the remaining bags to insure we are equipped if the need arises.

The Youngstown Volunteer Fire Department is always recruiting for new members. If you have the desire to give back to your community, come and see us. We will provide you with the equipment and training needed to become a successful entry level firefighter. If active firefighting isn't your thing, we still have opportunities as an ancillary member. We can always use help in the administrative division. If you can offer assistance with book keeping, accounting, fund raising, legal aspects, etc. please consider becoming an ancillary member. If interested in serving your community, please follow the "Join Fire Department" section on this page or stop by the station and see us. Thank You.
